If you ever find yourself in the vibrant city of New Orleans craving some unique soulful indulgence, exceptional plant-based cuisine, make a beeline for Sweet Soul Food.
This place is a vegan oasis. The menu, a celebration of plant-based delights, featured veganized versions of classic soul food dishes, lets you customize your plate with anywhere from 1 to 4 dishes.
Trust me, it’s a feast waiting to happen.
During our visit, my husband and I decided to go all out and explore the diverse flavors this spot had to offer. From Mac ’n’ cheese to sweet spicy fried cauliflower, hearty gumbo to jambalaya, and an array of sides like flavorful collard greens and sweet yam, our plates were a carnival of tastes.
Respect!
Sweet Soul Food has our taste buds but also has our respect. When we discovered they were using to-go containers, we asked if they would accommodate our request to use our own containers. With a warm understanding, they agreed. Our largest glass containers proved to be a perfect fit for the generous portions that awaited us.
Budget-Friendly
Now, let’s talk prices – and they are downright reasonable. Starting at $5.99 for a single item and capping at $14.99 for a bountiful combination of four, it’s a budget-friendly choice, especially for those of us used to California prices.
I love having food choices and a variety of dishes on my plate. This is the perfect set-up…we would of gotten 5 items each if it were an option on the menu. I thought about an extra side, but the idea didn’t come up until we had already placed the order and sat down.
There was already plenty of food on our plates, and ordering an extra side would mean we needed to go get another glass container from our van. So, here’s another benefit of using our own containers – won’t overindulge.
Sweet Ending
Don’t forget the sweet ending to your meal—and perhaps tomorrow’s breakfast! We treated ourselves to a generous serving of brownies and grabbed a piece of cornbread to go. They are priced at $3.50 for a piece of brownie and $3.00 for a piece of cornbread. Trust me, these are worth it!
Environment
The restaurant buzzes with customers, creating a lively scene that highlights the growing popularity of plant-based dining. But what truly set our experience apart was not just the delectable food and the bountiful options but also the cheerful atmosphere, the clean environment, and the exceptional value of the dishes.
Make a Difference
We greatly appreciate their understanding of our choice to use our own glass containers, cloth napkins, and silverware. This allows us the joy of dining out without contributing to unnecessary trash.
The simple yet profound practice of just a few individuals can have a great impact on reducing landfill waste and ocean pollution. It all starts with ourselves making the conscious choice.
